Casting for Jetty Stripers

Well as we come to a close of the season for Stripers/Rockfish in the Maryland Waters of the Chesapeake Bay, I thought I would get out and do some Jetty Casting.
Remember you can catch & release right on thru til spring, and thats what I'll be doing as long as the Stripers/Rockfish are active.

High Tide was at approx. 3:20 pm coinciding with Moon Set at 3:58 pm. This was perfect timing. I arrived at around 2:30 pm. The water was very clear, I new I would have to be selective with lure presentation. I decided to use my 4" Swim Shad/Baby Striper model, nice natural color. I had my medium outfit for casting distance. Second Cast and Fish on!! Hooked up!! The fish did not hit next to the rocks but about 30-40' away.

This seemed to be the pattern for the next few fish. I was employing a steady retrieve, sometimes allowing to fall and then continuing. the fish seemed to hit today mostly on the retrieve and not the drop. Medium speed retrieve. A few casts later and another hook up!!

The fish were fiesty strong fighters, and were pulling hard. What a blast! I had a feeling with the Tide and Moon set being so close that it would be a good day. Feeling was right and this has happened twice for me in the past two weeks. I did switch lures every few casts and both lures caught (I think I switched every 2 fish). Pics of lures used below. Wednsday, Thursday, and Friday should be good as well this week as the Incoming/High Tide and Moon set will be close together.

I caught 9 Stripers/Rockfish and the bite seem to die off right at the change of Tide. Very Productive hour of fishing.

Top Lure is the 4" Swim Shad/Baby Striper Model, and bottom is 4" Shad Pearl/Green back on a 1/4oz lead head.

The Moon Phase: a few days before, on and after the new moon, have consistently seemed to be the best. If you can coincide with moving tides (lately its been incoming Tide for me) than your success rate goes up.

Ofcourse we all go fishing when we can!! Get out there and Hook'em up!!
